There are 16 government-owned and funded institutes of technology and polytechnics (ITPs). Now they are unified into a single national institution: Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology.
Although ITPs sit under Te Pūkenga, they are recognised as individual education providers. Each school is located spreading across New Zealand – from Northland to Southland.
